1989 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo 1 Track Car
This 1989 Mercedes Benz190E 2.5-16 is a rare Evo 1 model that has been significantly modified for track use. The 2.5L Cosworth 4-cylinder is said to produce 289 horsepower. The interior is caged and features Recaro race seats and deleted rear seats, and the suspension and brakes have also been upgraded. We;d like to see some period BBS wheels, but even as shown the car seems perfect for some lapping at the ‘Ring. Find it here at Heurich Classics in Germany for 44,900 euros (today ~$50k).

R107 Frankenstein: 1977 Mercedes Benz “690SL”
5/20/2015 Update: Six months later, this Mercedes is still on offer, now here on Craigslist with the same photos so we’d suspect the same seller. It is still offered at $10k, but many months later there might be more negotiating room. Special thanks to BaT reader Guy P. for this update!
From 11/13/2014:
This 1977 Mercedes Benz SL has been converted to 6.9 liter M100 power but looks completely stock apart from the excellent690SL badge on the rear decklid. Last used five years ago, the car isdusty and a bit rough around the edges, though the seller insists that it’s not a project despite admitting it could use some TLC. Clean it up, source some home market headlights and fit the included Euro bumpers and we think it’d be killer. Find it here on eBay in San Diego, California with no reserve beyond a $10k starting bid. Special thanks to BaT reader Aaron G. for this submission!

We connected with I-29 south, headed towards I-680/80 to Moline.Rolling down I-29 the truck backfired. Loud. Really loud. We pulled into a rest area and discovered that the canister muffler had blown out on the seam. Not good.

$2800 Project: Rough 1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396
This 1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396 has been stored outside underneath tarps for many years and as a result is very rough, however the seller does describe it as complete with NOS fenders and a quarter panel. V8 Swapped 1961 Divco Food Truck
This 1961 Divco dairy truck has been converted for food prep duty and was recently fitted with a small block Chevy V8 and matching automatic transmission as well. The seller mentions rust, but from its description and photos we gather it’s mostly of the surface variety. Currently a working food truck, it still looks good despite the heavily raised roof. Find it here on eBay in Seattle, Washington with reserve not met.

Bargain 401/5-speed Swapped 1979 AMC Spirit AMX
This 1979 AMC Spirit AMX was factory equipped with a 304 V8 and manual trans but currently features a built 401 and T-5 5-speed which the seller describes as reliable, however the radio and some other electrical items require sorting. Although the Spirit isn’t the most attractive car to wear the AMX nameplate, this one looks good apart from scratches and under-spray on the rockers; a rust hole in the hatch floor is noted but the seller says the car is otherwise rust free. Despite cheap aftermarket seats in place of factory buckets and a botched stereo install, things are equally decent inside. Find it here on Craigslist in Vancouver, BC, Canada for $5,500 USD. Special thanks to BaT reader Remi R. for this submission.

Engine Issues: 1972 DeTomaso Deauville Sedan
This 1972 DeTomaso Deauville is an automatic equipped car that is said to have been completely restored but no specific details are given. Due to some nondescript engine noise, the 351 Cleveland has been removed but sounds as though it is included; additionally, headlight buckets appear missing but the trunk is shown stuffed with boxes of parts. Both paint and interior present well but the underside appears to have gone overlooked during restoration. Find it here at The Gallery in Brummen, Netherlands for 27,500 euros ($30,615 today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

Clean 327/Automatic 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
This 1967 Chevrolet Camaro makes no claims to matching numbers or rare, high-level trim, but does look to be a sharp, nicely restored example with good cosmetics and a few nice upgrades like Vintage Air A/C and Keystone wheels. Gold works very well on these first gen cars, and we’re always happy to see no vinyl top. Find it here on Craigslist in Cleveland, Tennesse for $27,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Robert R. for this submission.

RM-Sotheby’s Villa Erba Sale This Week: Interesting Picks
Villa Erba on Lake Como is a gorgeous backdrop for RM’s upcoming May 23rd sale of high end vintage exotica, four examples of which we’ve chosen as our favorites and detailed further below. $8k Driver: 1960 Studebaker Lark Two Door Wagon
This 1960 Studebaker Lark two door wagon is said to be one of less than 5,000 made, and though we’re unable to verify that number we can say that they don’t come up for sale very often. The car looks to be in solid condition and is listed as having great floor pans and a strong running 259ci Stude V8, while inside the all-original interior looks complete and in quite nice shape as well. Find it here on Craigslist in Fresno, California for $8k OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Dave S. for this submission.

Big Brass: 1917 Locomobile Model 38-2 Project
This 1917 Locomobile Model 38-2 (chassis 13252) is offered as a non-running project in need of completed bodywork, and we think it’d make a really cool roadster. The big 523ci, bronze blocked straight turns by hand but last run in 1991, prior to which it’s believed to have been rebuilt. These big cars are really impressive to see in action, and an electric start and standard H-pattern gear shift should make it easier to drive than other Brass Era machines. Find it here on eBay in Watertown, New York for $60k OBO.

BaT Alfa Rally Project Update: Cleaning and Cutting
Our 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta TI project continues! We have gone deeper than we wanted to, so not only have we scoured the underside of the car, we’ve also had to cut out some rusty metal. This development has set back the schedule somewhat and caused us to miss an event in April, but we are booked for the MotherLode 400 event in June, which we have never done and are very excited to attend. You should join us! Can we get this thing back together in the next 4 weeks? We hope so.

BaT Auctions Success Story: GMC Cross-Country Trek In Progress – Part II
This just in from the buyerof the 1961 GMC Pick-Up sold via BaT Auctions in December (link). The seller’s initial Success Story was here, and the road trip from Oregon to Massachusetts has now commenced. Part I is here and Part II is below:
“Good evening BaT.
Day 2 ended on a high note. My brother came up from Colorado and met us at the hotel in Rawlins with several chilled beverages. Dinner at Buck’s Sports Grill, and a good night’s sleep.
Day 3 started cold in Rawlins, WY. 38 degrees and foggy. Pulled out about 6:45, headed east. Our escort followed us for the first thirty miles, then pulled off for a great action shot. The high point of the trip was the summit just east of Laramie at 8640 feet above sea level.

Flathead V8 and Rare Automatic: 1951 Ford Country Squire Woody
This 1951 Ford Country Squire is said to be one of 700 automatic/flathead V8 cars built, its rarity compounded by the fact that ‘51 was the first year for the auto and the last for real wood. Described as all-original, the car displays some rust and wood problems but still seems very restorable as presented. Find it here on Craigslist in Santa Cruz, California for $28,500 or trade.

This 1969 Plymouth Road Runner is claimed to be a matching numbers 383/4-speed car with less than 100 miles on a rebuilt engine and transmission. New brakes, suspension and tires are also mentioned, and though largely solid, the right rear quarter needs some patch work and the interior is missing some trim.
