finding balance

02.07.12

i made a list of new year’s resolutions.  i am very good at sticking to lists.  my husband calls it something else but i call it being focused and organized!  it’s like i don’t want to let my list down.  so, i wrote down all these resolutions and a few are starting to happen.  one of them was to start yoga.  this really came out of a need.  i really messed up my knee last year doing an work out video at home.  so, after much physical therapy, i was told yoga and low impact activity would be best for me; at least until i healed.  i used to hate my elliptical but, not that we have netflix in the basement, it’s not so bad.  i am starting the series, Parenthood and like it a lot.  (another resolution…take more time to do the things i want to do not just have to do.  Parenthood fits that category!).

i’ve digressed!  onto yoga.  you can read a great deal about yoga here. i tried yoga years ago but didn’t understand the benefits beyond relaxation.  now i do.  it’s a mind/body thing.  it’s so much about getting in touch with myself and pushing myself further.  it’s a class full of people yet it is really only for me.  i’ve put myself out there with yoga and am getting back awareness, focus, flexibility and balance.  my favorite part of yoga is shavasana.  this part of the practice comes at the end and is a time of deep relaxation and rejuvenation.  it’s soooo relaxing.  like a reward for a job well done.

if you’ve ever thought of doing yoga; do it!  you won’t regret it!  yes, some people will be “better” than you.  some people are just “show offs” but it doesn’t matter.  it’s what YOU get out of it.  there are many types of yoga classes.  i’ve been taking ashtunga & yin yoga classes, but there are so many different kinds. if you’re not comfortable or don’t have the time to “hit the gym”, you can make your own yoga studio right in the comfort of your home.  this may help you to relax even more.  there are great yoga videos to follow along with. no matter what method you choose to pracice,  this is a great site to get you started! and for an added bonus, i’ve found this awesome  yoga playlist you can listen to while you work on your downward dog!  kaitlin and i are listening to it while we work.  it’s so soothing!

may you find the balance you need in your life.  namaste.
