Archive for February, 2012

i must begin this post with a disclaimer:  all images were shot by my loving, sweet, smart husband who has NO CLUE how to use my camera!  (maybe i should teach him a little before handing it to him and telling him to “shoot!”)  so, while the images aren’t amazing, the event was!  we had over twenty people there from a diverse group of schools.  i’m soooo excited for some good weather and great senior sessions.  i’m having another meeting next tuesday and will finalize the class of 2013 big shots model team then.  i’m still taking applications from most schools so, if you’re interested, please fill out this form and i’ll be in touch.

two of my awesome models, jessica & tricia, from the class of 2012 model program came to speak about their experiences.

josh snuck out to shoot this while the meeting was taking place.  samples and snacks were a great way to kick off the meeting!

a packed house! if the program grows anymore, i may have to move! lol

hadley is one! since hadley is part of the big shots baby plan, i’ve photographed hadley throughout the year to capture who she is as she grows and changes. it’s been so much fun getting to know her and her parents and watching her blossom.  i can’t believe it was one year ago when she was just a newborn and then a not yet walking eight month old.  she has grown a LOT!  i went over to her house for the big birthday celebration where we began on the same chair i shot her on when she was only eight days old and ended with a cake smash followed by a bath.  we were lucky enough with the weather to get outside for a bit too!  these images best convey what hadley’s birthday session was all about:

she looks like she’s ready to break free and run on her own!

getting messy is half the fun…

…bathing in the sink is so much fun too!  i love the “after cake bath” images.  the kids just seem to enjoy it so much!

josh and i joke around a lot.  anyone who knows us well will tell you he’s the ying to my yang.  he gets me better than anyone else which is why we work.  it’s why my work works. he is the back end of my business but he’s also behind me in everything i do.  when i take on a new personal project, he’s there to encourage me.  when i’m down about something, he lifts me up.

he calls me “baskin-robbins” because i’m sweet, a treat for sore eyes & their many flavors match my many moods.  well, josh is like the grocery store; dependable, bright and cheery, always open and filled with everything you could want and/or need.

that’s why this song, everything by michael buble, is the perfect song from me to josh.  we’ve been through a lot together in the short 51/2 years we’ve known each other…it is a crazy life with crazy times and i wouldn’t want to spend it with ANYONE but josh.  this song has been a part of us because it kind of “is” us:

“You’re a falling star, You’re the get away car.
You’re the line in the sand when I go too far.
You’re the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you’re the perfect thing to say.

And you play it coy, but it’s kinda cute.
Ah, When you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don’t pretend, that you don’t know it’s true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing.
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.

You’re a carousel, you’re a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You’re a mystery, you’re from outer space,
You’re every minute of my everyday.

And I can’t believe, uh that I’m your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we’ll see it through,
And you know that’s what our love can do.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.”

you can hear it here

happy valentine’s day to my everything.

emily and i got to know each other briefly when she, her mom and her grandma came to her sister, nicole’s, shoot last spring.  she and nicole couldn’t look more different but are both super sweet girls.  mom lorie has done something right!

emily is an actress and model so we planned to work together sometime in the future.  well…the future is here!  emily is up for a very prestigious overture awards scholarship. the list that started with some 700 applications is down to four people.  can you imagine the pressure?  emily needed some new model images and a headshot so we headed out to get her just that!  emily is a finalist and i’m keeping my fingers crossed!  emily has that certain something that’s going to take her far.  what a beauty, inside and out.

lots of different looks and backdrops add interest to her portfolio to help her stand out!

the “one”! this is the headshot she chose to enter into the last round of the competiton.

finding balance

02.07.12

i made a list of new year’s resolutions.  i am very good at sticking to lists.  my husband calls it something else but i call it being focused and organized!  it’s like i don’t want to let my list down.  so, i wrote down all these resolutions and a few are starting to happen.  one of them was to start yoga.  this really came out of a need.  i really messed up my knee last year doing an work out video at home.  so, after much physical therapy, i was told yoga and low impact activity would be best for me; at least until i healed.  i used to hate my elliptical but, not that we have netflix in the basement, it’s not so bad.  i am starting the series, Parenthood and like it a lot.  (another resolution…take more time to do the things i want to do not just have to do.  Parenthood fits that category!).

i’ve digressed!  onto yoga.  you can read a great deal about yoga here. i tried yoga years ago but didn’t understand the benefits beyond relaxation.  now i do.  it’s a mind/body thing.  it’s so much about getting in touch with myself and pushing myself further.  it’s a class full of people yet it is really only for me.  i’ve put myself out there with yoga and am getting back awareness, focus, flexibility and balance.  my favorite part of yoga is shavasana.  this part of the practice comes at the end and is a time of deep relaxation and rejuvenation.  it’s soooo relaxing.  like a reward for a job well done.

if you’ve ever thought of doing yoga; do it!  you won’t regret it!  yes, some people will be “better” than you.  some people are just “show offs” but it doesn’t matter.  it’s what YOU get out of it.  there are many types of yoga classes.  i’ve been taking ashtunga & yin yoga classes, but there are so many different kinds. if you’re not comfortable or don’t have the time to “hit the gym”, you can make your own yoga studio right in the comfort of your home.  this may help you to relax even more.  there are great yoga videos to follow along with. no matter what method you choose to pracice,  this is a great site to get you started! and for an added bonus, i’ve found this awesome  yoga playlist you can listen to while you work on your downward dog!  kaitlin and i are listening to it while we work.  it’s so soothing!

may you find the balance you need in your life.  namaste.
