she’s so tall!

09.03.10

i’ve been working with this family for a few years now and adore them.  this session was all about carolyn.  i shot model/acting photos of her and her sister last spring and carolyn wanted updated shots since she just got her braces off!   she definitely has the personality for acting (NOT shy).  i was saying something about how we’re the same height.  then we stood back to back and her mom judged that carolyn was, in fact, taller!  so, we joked about this throughout the session.  (it’s like 1/4 inch difference!  LOL).  we went here and there around the town scouting out great places for photo opportunities.  there were so many.  (p.s.-if you like the look of this session, let me know.  i’d love to go back).  i think carolyn’s portfolio will be very well received!

this shot reminds me of cape cod or hilton head.  carolyn looks like she walked out of a j crew catalog!

her mom had just given her a big smooch…the after effect got us the perfect intense look we were going for!

all i can say is, “watch out”!

one thing i love about my job is that everyone is different and is looking for different things.  some seniors want a park setting, others get excited by the rush of action downtown.  some want a more posed, camera aware session while others want to be captured just doing and being.  there are so many session locations and session types.  i never get bored so your images never look boring!  kristen opted for a more editorial type of session; the kind of images you might find in an anthropologie /urban outfitters type of catalog.  it sooo worked for her.  her personality is so diverse; going from serious and pensive to lighthearted and fun.  she is tiny but mighty…mighty adorable!  here are a few of my many favorites!

If I had $1,000 I would…ask someone wiser than me the smartest way to spend it. If there were no bounds, I’d probably just end up buying food and clothes.

I love Big Shots Photography and working with Marla because:  Marla really made the session so laid back. She definitely knows how to make you look good, but is also welcoming to your own ideas. As someone who is normally self-conscious when photographed, I was so impressed by how confident I was during the session because of the comfortable atmosphere Marla created. I could not have chosen a better person to take my senior pictures–I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat.

madison is the second senior i’ve photographed who was so excited to wear heals.  now, i’ve never even considered the dilemma tall high school girls face since i’ve always been so short.  and since my husband is 6’3″, i don’t think it’ll ever be a problem!  madison informed me that she can’t wear high heals to dances because she doesn’t want to tower over the guys.  understood.  so, she broke out the heals and WOW!  heals on or off, she’s gorgeous and super talented.  she just got a FULL scholarship to play volleyball in college.  with all you have going for you, i know you’re going to knock ‘em dead!  good luck madison.

aj came to me by way of one of my big shots models, alex.  they’re dating and are sooo cute together.  i first met him at the big shots model class of 2011 kick off bowling/pizza party in the spring.  he also joined us for alex’s session so he knew what to do and jumped right in.  alex didn’t make it to aj’s session but helped aj pick out his outfits (awwww).   he is very involved in soccer so we thought it was important to showcase that in his senior session.  we got a good mix of images and had a lot of fun doing it.

aanchal’s mom and i planned her entire session via email from the u.s.a to india!  i’m quite proud of that and amazed at what technology can do 1,000′s of miles apart.  i was so excited to meet them in person!   i was even more excited that aanchal wore such a beautiful traditional indian outfit.  as i’ve said before, i don’t just capture what you look like, i capture who you are.  everyone has different sides to them.  why not showcase and embrace those parts of you like aanchal did?  it can be a cultural outfit, a silly pair of socks, an umbrella…whatever.  if it is a part of what makes YOU you, i want to see it.  and now, let’s see aanchal!
